DIY Chalk Paint with Mason Jar Décor

This is a unique and charming DIY painting project using chalk paint and a few mason jars.  It is a simple painting project and turns an ordinary mason jar into a fabulous décor.

The holiday season is upon us, try decorating a few Mason jars and dazzle your guests with homemade creative table decor!

Supplies Needed for DIY Chalk Painted Mason Jars

Supplies:

Follow step by step:

Step One:

Clean the entire outside surface of the mason jars, applying an even coat of rubbing alcohol. This process is an important step; the chalk paint will adhere better to the jar.

Step Two:

Begin the painting process by using your foam brush, add some chalk paint from the bottle. Flip the jar over and paint the bottom and work your way down the jar.  It typically takes one coat of paint, however, in my experience, the lighter shades will take up to two coats to achieve a matte finish.

Step Three:

Continue painting the other jars using different chalk paint colors. Once they dry, you can apply the second coat if needed. Let dry overnight.

Step Four:

To begin the distressing process, start sanding from the top of the jar and work your way to the bottom. Sand the area of the jar to distress it as much or less for each jar. Once completed, wipe off the chalk dust or residue using a soft rag.

Step Five:

Next, apply the wax and make sure each jar has an even application of wax on each jar.

Cut a long piece of twine and wrap it around the Mason jar rim or another option, add a ribbon the size of the rim length and glue into place.  This adds another layer of charm to the jars.

Step Seven:

Next, add your season of flowers or greenery and place inside your mason jars. This creates a DIY home décor that is absolutely charming!
