Hey there! There are many discussions of what color to paint the walls. BUT, before deciding on wall colors, discuss dry wall TEXTURE choices. YES, texture, it is an important decision when trying to complete a design feature for a room.
It brings dimension and a richness to complement the color scheme of a room. The unique aspect of the levels of texture on walls changes the features of the room. The bathroom picture is “hand trowel” texture with faux-finish paint techniques to create a stunning finish to create the old world effect. AMAZING REVEAL!
HOW TO DECIDE ON A TEXTURE:
SPLATTER KNOCK DOWN TEXTURE –
The splatter knockdown texture is one of the most popular types and commonly used and showcased in residential homes. It is common to be referred as “Knock Down” or “Spray Knockdown.”
ORANGE PEEL TEXTURE –
Orange peel texture is not as commonly used in residential homes and will find the applied texture applications found in large commercial buildings or in hotels.
OLD WORLD TEXTURE OR HAND TROWEL
If there is a wall that stands out, HAND TROWEL is the answer! It is the go-to IDEA when working on a small project. The process has been implemented on several homes, for our bathroom and kitchen small projects using the texture to give definition to the walls. It’s amazing how it transforms the room.
The texture is a popular choice; DIY’ers and home builders will customize bathrooms, kitchens, accent walls, or walls with high ceilings for a dramatic effect.
The Process: To apply the joint compound by using a trowel tool. It will need to be applied to the walls using a thick application to create deep crevices and sweeping peaks to the walls for an effect. In this unique process, by using a joint compound and a color glaze will give the walls a dramatic transformation.
Note: For a dramatic reveal, we add Floetrol to the color glaze. We found it easier to apply it to the textured walls. The selection of a dark color glaze will settle in the crevices to showcase the depth, while the color drags over the smoother sections, for a lighter touch to complete the rustic or old world appeal..
There are several steps to the process, it may take a few weeks, depending on the size of the room or wall area. It will be worth the effort and end up with a beautiful presentation and distinctive textured wall.
