Paint your ceiling black – A BOLD MOVE?

The photo featured is another one of our finished project, an open concept retail space.  The NEW salon is designed with a high ceiling sprayed with black paint and offset with natural concrete stain flooring.  The high ceiling gives the space a dramatic and architectural unique design.

The commercial trend of spraying the open ceiling “industrial look” has been done for years and is now becoming a trend in residential home projects.

The most common sprayed ceilings in residential homes are unfinished basements.  The paint covers the open ceiling joists to give the room a broader appeal and higher ceiling appearance.

The newest trend in residential homes, black painted ceilings are popping up in bathrooms and media rooms.

What product do you use?

The paint used for the application on the ceilings is called “dry flat paint” which dries fast and less dripping occurs for less mess.

Waterborne Dry Fall Black Coating is an interior flat acrylic paint.  It minimizes overspray.  Any overspray quickly dries to a dust-like finish for quick and easy cleanup.  The process requires a primer applied prior to spraying the black paint.

Commercial and Residential Purposes

COMMERCIAL:

It is common to see a commercial space with the open ceiling painted BLACK.  It is an “Industrial” design feature commonly found in warehouse, gyms, restaurant and retail spaces.

RESIDENTIAL:

Media Room:

The decision to paint a dark color should be based on your personal preferences and on the advantages it offers. When selecting the paint, avoid semi-gloss or satin finishes.  Instead decide on a flat finish which does not reflect light.

A media room can create a sense of intimacy in the room and allow it to feel cozy by selecting a color; an option using warm earth tones such as browns, reds or burgundy.

But, is it important to paint your ceiling black?  Yes, the black ceiling and dark walls would direct all the focus toward the screen and would minimize glares from the projector. Using dark colors will give your media room a feel like a cinema.

Bathroom:

Bathrooms are an excellent place to try something a bit daring. The dramatic effect of painting your ceiling black for your bathroom is on the rise of popular DIY trends.

The black ceiling adds architectural interest where none existed and makes the space feel far more interesting.

A black and white bathroom is breathtaking.  A black ceiling is a nice contract for black and white tile flooring, and adding few décor pieces of color give it a pop of glamour.

We hope the the information was helpful, be daring on your next home renovation project, a black ceiling is a BOLD move!
