We designed a new fireplace for the living room to encompass a focal point in the
main living space of the house. The fireplace has a three-sided rough cut AUSTIN STONE and it will add a unique dimension. It will most defiantly be a striking FEATURE of the house.
The fireplace will reach the ceiling height, which is a two-story home. The theme of the house is traditional Texas style, so we wanted to bring a striking element to the main living space by “bring in the natural stone from the outside” to the inside.
The natural “AUSTIN STONE” is heavy; each rugged cut will take some time for each section to be saw-cut and chipped before applying to the veneer walls of the fireplace.
The mortar selection is “buff” and to achieve the buff color we added sand to the cement mixture. Adding the sand, which is a reddish color, changes the standard cement mixture. On most masonry projects, it is common to use a gray mortar, by using the standard cement mixture.
As the stages of the install of the fireplace shows the different cuts of the Austin Stone to showcase a very TEXAS TRADITIONAL style and adds beauty and warmth to the homestead.
We love the outcome of the stone fireplace! We are at the end of our project, our final step to conclude our project to install an electric insert fireplace for ambiance and some heat
source! Just saying, it’s Texas, it can get cold during the winter months of the year. Really!
