10 Ideas to Decorate your Master Bedroom like a Retreat

The master bedroom is an important space in the home; however, it is often the least priority to be renovated.  We focus most of the energy on decorating the rest of the home, and the master bedroom becomes neglected.

The master bedroom is a rejuvenating space, a retreat, so let’s focus and make this happen; follow our 10 Ideas to Decorate your Master Bedroom.

TIP #1 ADD A FLOOR RUG

If your room is a neutral color of gray and white, decide on a rug that is simple but bright with a splash of color, breaks up the flow of all the white and neutral.  The elongated, multi-color rug gives the room a “pop” of color while keeping the focus on the décor.

TIP #2 HEADBOARDS

There are plenty of decisions to make for the right headboard for your master bedroom suite; your choice of headboards; white, fabric, or leather.  Although, creating an untraditional headboard, using bamboo or select textile, a blanket, or a woven that is significant and meaningful to you? Use it as a headboard! Use low profile curtain rods to mount it behind your bed for a fully customized headboard.

TIP #3 THROW BLANKETS

A cozy throw blanket creates a cozy warm and welcoming spot to relax with soft and comfortable throw blankets; with an ample selection of colors.  These versatile throw blankets work well throughout the home. Whether they’re draped over the foot of the bed; or over the arm of your sitting chair.

TIP #4 GROUP DECOR IN THREES

While there are exceptions to this rule, as there are for decorating; it is a good rule of thumb when you’re trying to decorate a bedroom; group pieces into threes, or at least into odd-numbered units. There is an inherent sense of balance and satisfaction that comes when that third component joins the other two.

TIP #5 FURNITURE AT THE FOOT OF BED

In this soothing bedroom of soft neutrals, an ottoman bench at the foot of the bed serves as a grounding force visual and useful place to sit and relax.

TIP #6 NIGHTSTANDS

Some people are more comfortable with matching sets, and that’s fine with nightstands. But another alternative to approach nightstands is to choose two pieces that have something in common; color, context, or overall shape, for example, but aren’t exactly the same. It’s a good idea to keep them relatively equal in size and proportion.

TIP #7 DECORATIVE LAMPS

This can be almost anything, from a ceiling-hung pendant to a wall sconce to a simple tabletop lamp. But a night light makes a bedroom relaxing; use it for your own reading or work, or use it to include stylistic height to your nightstand area.

TIP #8 STAND OUT CEILINGS

Retrofitting a tray ceiling into your existing bedroom may be of value but not within your budget; you could install crown molding to allow the room more character and glamour.  If you design a remodel for your master bedroom design; consider incorporating a box ceiling feature, this will add dimension and elegance.  If you have a high ceiling, consider adding custom beams.

TIP # 9 BEDDING CHOICES

The master bedroom decorated with white linens, it is inviting, a fresh and clean décor look.  It is an ideal complement to a bright wall color as the contrast between the two; make the wall color pop. The simple white tones can bring the brightness of the room down a notch.

TIP #10 PILLOWS AND MORE PILLOWS

An effort of adding the final touches with pillows and more pillows; a layer of soft, lush and various sizes will bring the volume of the of bedroom feel inviting and elegant.
