When it comes to building your new home, there are plenty of decisions and important factors to consider; from architects, sub-contractors, roofing materials, cabinets, interior design features, just to name a few.  The decisions are seemingly endless.

It’s time consuming to select all the design features for the home, but it’s often overlooked the selection of windows.  If you focus on saving money on windows, it could cost you money in the long run.

One of the largest mistakes homeowners make when building a new home is not thinking enough about windows.   After all, this is the main source for natural light in your home.

It’s important to educate yourself before deciding on windows for new construction.  So let me help you by providing you a few simple facts about selecting windows.

What is your BUDGET?

In order to ensure you get the best value from your investment of new windows, it’s important to pinpoint the requirements of your natural environment and establish a realist budget.  Then you can logically narrow down your options based on what is most necessary and affordable.

Selecting your Window Materials

TIP #1 Wood Windows: If you select a wood window, it’s known for the traditional look, a natural finish will add character and charm to the inside of your home.  Premium brands to include, Pella, Marvin and Andersen Windows.

The wood windows will need a multi-step finish process to create a durable and consistent product.  Before assembly, each individual piece of wood is to be sanded, conditioned, stained or painted.

For an added investment, some wood windows will have aluminum cladding on the outside to protect the wood and also enhance the appearance.  The warmth of wood, combined with a colorful and low maintenance cladding means you get the best of both worlds.

TIP #2 Vinyl Windows: Vinyl windows are made from PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), a strong, water-resistant material than is often used to construct household pipes.  Since moisture absorbance causes windows to warp, rot and distort, this water-resistance enables vinyl windows to maintain their original quality much long than other materials.  Vinyl is perhaps the most popular window material on the market.  It is affordable, durable and weather-resistant.

TIP #3 Fiberglass: Fiberglass is nearly unbeatable, when it comes to strength.  In fact, compared to other materials, fiberglass is the strongest window framing material in the industry.  The strength and long-term durability makes it a great selection.  The fiberglass windows are available in a variety of colors and one of the more desirable window materials on the market.
